Man Murdered for Rejecting His Daughter’s Inter-Faith Marriage Proposal

Mumbai: Zakir Miya Shaikh, a 46-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Thane district was allegedly murdered by three persons as he was against an interfaith marriage proposal involving one of the accused and his daughter.

According to police, accused Avinash Khairat harboured one-sided feelings for victim Zakir Miya Shaikh’s daughter. Avinash was pressing Zakir to get his daughter married to him.

When Zakir did not agree for the marriage, Avinash and two other persons stormed into Zakir’s house in Kalyan taluka during Eid festivities and attacked him with sharp weapons and sticks. They also assaulted others present there, including women, police sources said. Zakir was killed in the attack.

A case of murder has been registered against the trio and a search is on to arrest them, police sources said.
