Lok Sabha Passes Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Bill, 2022

New Delhi: The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Bill, 2022, which aims to amend the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950, for its implementation in Tamil Nadu, was passed by the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

In states and Union Territories, the Order identifies the tribal groups that are considered to be Scheduled Tribes. The Narikoravan and Kurivikkaran communities are listed as scheduled tribes in Tamil Nadu by the legislation.

The administration is concerned about the upliftment of the poorest of the poor and wishes to offer them governance together with social justice, according to Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda, who commented in response to the lower house’s discussion of the bill.

According to him, the government has made an effort to engage a community with a population of roughly 27,000, which clarifies its positive intentions.

Munda assuaged worries about tribal members receiving scholarships by announcing that there would be no limits and that the government would take into account all applications.

He added that there had been an increase in scholarship spending.
