Kerala Principal Sacked for Locking Up Students in Her Room

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government sacked the principal of a government college in Kasargod district for locking up students in her chamber. The principal identified as M Rema locked up a group of student representatives, who were protesting against the drinking water problem on the college campus.

The students alleged that the principal spoke rudely when they complained that the drinking water was contaminated. Following this, the students launched a strike under the leadership of SFI, demanding her resignation. They also alleged that M Rema did not allow them to sit and talk and was adamant that the students should only stand while talking to her.

The students also sent a complaint to the higher education department and the minister.

Kerala’s Higher Education Minister R Bindu, in a statement, said that she has been removed on the basis of the complaint filed by students.

Dr AN Ananthapadmanabha, senior faculty under the geology department, was appointed with powers of the principal including those related to financial matters, her post read.
