Over 4,500 People Of Indian Origin Still Stuck In Sudan: Foreign Ministry

New Delhi: The Indian government revealed today that there are thought to be about 3500 Indians and 1000 people of Indian ancestry still stuck in the conflict-torn Sudan.

In a briefing to the media in New Delhi, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra stated that since the conflict began on the 15th of this month, India has been closely monitoring the situation on the ground in Sudan. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has discussed the evacuation operation with his counterparts in the US, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and the UK.

According to the foreign secretary, communication networks have been set up in Sudan through which Indians can share information about the situation and receive advice from their government. According to Kwatra, the embassy has also started a registration process online. Approximately 3000 Indian citizens have registered themselves thus far, and 300 of them are in communication with the embassy, he stated.
