Fraudster Arrested For Duping Lakhs From Job Aspirants

Bhubaneswar: The Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police arrested a fraudster in Bhubaneswar accused of defrauding multiple individuals by promising them jobs in exchange for Rs 25 lakh.

Debabrata Palai, a resident of Mayurbhanj’s Rairangpur block’s Krushnapur village, has been named as the accused.

Palai conned job seekers by launching a consulting firm in Bhubaneswar’s Hanspal area. However, he was detained after a job applicant filed a complaint against him, accusing Palai of defrauding the system.

According to sources, Palai used to lead a luxurious lifestyle by blowing the money stolen from job applicants. According to reports, he defrauded three people of Rs 13 lakh. He even succeeded in taking Rs 50,000 from a female while offering her employment in a hospital.

A complainant named Rajkishore Pradhan claimed, “He took Rs 3.5 lakh from me promising to give my son a job. I requested him to return my money when I couldn’t find my son’s name on the qualifying list. He never did return it, though, and instead kept making excuses. I was eventually compelled to visit the police station to file a complaint”.

Following Palai’s arrest, the police opened an investigation to determine whether any other people were also victims of his crime.

It is important to note that in January 2023, the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Police exposed one of the largest employment frauds in India.
