Elected Delhi Govt Should Have Control Over Adm: Rules SC in Delhi-Centre Service Row

New Delhi: The five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court delivered the unanimous verdict in the Delhi-Centre services row case. The Supreme Court bench said the federal structure is part of the basic structure of the Constitution and elected government needs to have control over administration.

As per the apex court, the Delhi government must have control over civic services. The LG is bound by decisions on services by the Delhi government. Real power must rest with the elected government, opined the bench.

The CJI said, “Don’t agree with the 2019 judgment of Justice Ashok Bhushan that Delhi has no power over services”. Delhi government has legislative and executive powers over services, rules the Supreme Court.
