Marriage Cancelled As Dowry-Greedy Groom Demands Bike In Balangir

Balangir: Balangir police have detained a groom for allegedly demanding a two-wheeler as dowry on the wedding day in Sambalpur district on Thursday.

According to reports, one Md Shaikh Qureshi’s Nikah was fixed with a girl from Sriramnagarpada in Bolangir. After reaching the wedding venue with his baraat, he and his family demanded a two-wheeler as dowry.

The family members of the bride were reportedly shocked by the sudden demand and refused to give a bike as dowry. Irate over denial, the baraatis and Qureshi’s family did not eat the dinner served to them and remained adamant on his demand.

With no option left, the family of the bride cancelled the wedding and lodged a complaint at the Town Police station in Bolangir.

On the basis of the complaint, the police picked up Qureshi and his family and detained them at the police station overnight for questioning.
