Hirakud Dam Inflow Rising, 20 Sluice Gates Opened; Flood Threat Averted for Next 2-3 Days

Sambalpur: As the floodwater recedes in several parts of Odisha, the Hirakud dam is experiencing a rising inflow. To manage the excess water, authorities have been releasing it through 20 sluice gates. As of 9 am, the water level in Hirakud dam stands at 621.95ft.

The dam recorded an inflow of approximately 3,50,000 cusecs, with a similar outflow. However, the inflow has decreased, giving officials hope to maintain the target level and reduce the dam’s water level, as there has been no major upstream rainfall.

Mundali is currently experiencing an outflow of around 2,61,500 cusecs of water. According to the Engineer-in-chief of Water Resources Department, Bhakta Ranjan Mohanty, major rivers’ water levels are on a declining trend, and there is no immediate flood threat for the next two to three days.

In another incident, a 20 ft breach was discovered in the Puri main canal near Balakati, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. Senior officials have visited the site and initiated necessary repair work.
