Lucknow: The postmaster of a local post office in the Augautha in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district allegedly embezzled Rs 4 crore from the accounts of inhabitants of more than 16 villages. His misdeed came to the fore when several villagers found that all the money in their accounts had been withdrawn without their knowledge.
Receiving complaints, police filed a case against the postmaster, Omprakash Shkya under IPC sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant), 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy), and started an investigation.
The erring postmaster has absconded. The postal department has ordered an internal probe and suspended four employees in relation to the incident.
