AAP Requests ECI to Reschedule Chhattisgarh Assembly Poll Date for Chhath Festival

Through a letter, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to reschedule the date of the second phase of the Chhattisgarh assembly elections as it coincides with the Chhath Puja festival.

The AAP has proposed the ECI to change the second phase of polling date from November 17 to November 25.

The Chhath Puja, a major festival in North India, falls on November 17, 18, and 19.

Chhattisgarh AAP in-charge Sanjeev Jha said other parties including the BJP and the Congress, have also demanded a change in the polling dates.

The AAP, on Thursday, announced its third list of candidates for the Chhattisgarh Assembly Election.

The elections for the 90-member Assembly of Chhattisgarh will be held in two phases. As per the declared schedule, the first phase of polling for 20 seats will be held on November 7, and the remaining 70 seats will go to polls on November 17.

The counting of votes will take place on December 3.
