Odisha to Witness Partial Lunar Eclipse on October 28-29

Bhubaneswar: A partial lunar eclipse is set to grace the night sky on the intervening night of October 28-29, and it will be visible in the state of Odisha, India, from 1:05 AM to 2:24 AM. This information was provided by the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Department.

The Moon will enter the penumbra at midnight of October 28, with the umbral phase commencing in the early hours of October 29. This eclipse will be observable from all regions of India. The umbral phase will begin at 01:05 IST on October 29 and conclude at 02:24 IST, making the eclipse last for 1 hour and 13 minutes. The magnitude of this eclipse is very small, measuring 0.126.

It’s worth noting that the next lunar eclipse visible from India will occur on September 7, 2025, and it will be a total eclipse. The most recent lunar eclipse visible in India was on November 8, 2022, which was also a total eclipse.

Lunar eclipses happen during a full moon when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, aligning all three objects. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the entire Moon enters the Earth’s umbral shadow, while a partial lunar eclipse occurs when only a portion of the Moon is in the Earth’s shadow.
