Monsoon to Knock at South Odisha On June 9: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The Southwest Monsoon is likely to arrive in parts of south Odisha on June 9, forecasted the Bhubaneswar regional centre of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.

Areas of south and coastal Odisha will experience monsoon rains ahead of other areas of the state.

According to the weather forecasters, the prevailing conditions are favourable for the onset of the Southwest Monsoon in Odisha. Usually the monsoon reaches Odisha in the second week of June.

According to Manorama Mohanty, director of IMD Bhubaneswar, the Southwest Monsoon that usually reaches Odisha towards the second week of June – 12 or 13 is expected to arrive south Odisha in the next three to four days as the conditions till now are favourable.

This year, southwest Monsoon reached the Andamans and Kerala well in advance.

But as per the IMD, heatwave conditions will continue in western Odisha for two more days. An orange warning has been issued for Bolangir and Bargarh, while a yellow warning has been issued for Thursday for Kalahandi, Nuapada, Subarnapur, and Sambalpur. The day temperature will likely be above 40°C in some districts of interior Odisha.

Light to moderate rain, and lightning may occur in some districts of interior Odisha.
