Hemant Soren Wins Trust Vote in Jharkhand Assembly

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren won the trust vote in the state Assembly on Monday. He got the support of 45 legislators in the 81-member house.

Hemant Soren took oath as the CM of Jharkhand on July 4 after being released on bail from the Jharkhand High Court in an alleged land scam.

The ruling alliance, led by Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has 45 MLAs — JMM-27, Congress-17, and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) 1 in the 81-member Assembly.

The BJP-led Opposition has 30 members. The total strength of the House has become 76 after some members were elected to the Lok Sabha.

Hemant Soren is expected to expand his Cabinet after winning the trust vote.

He had resigned as the Chief Minister, shortly before his arrest on January 31 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The JMM leader was sworn in as the Chief Minister on July 4, a day after his predecessor Champai Soren stepped down from the post.

Hemant Soren was released from jail on June 28 after the Jharkhand High Court granted bail to him in a money laundering case linked to the land ‘scam’.
