Heavy Rain Alert for Parts of Odisha, Light Showers Expected Statewide

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, and Gajapati districts of Odisha on Monday.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts. Additionally, South Odisha may experience light to moderate rain/thundershowers, while North Odisha may see rainfall at a few places.

Puri is likely to have a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of light rain until 5 PM. Bhubaneswar is expected to experience a cloudy sky with intermittent spells of rain or thundershowers. The intensity of rain is expected to decrease across the state thereafter, but light to moderate rain/thundershowers may continue in many places until July 14.

The IMD’s midday bulletin mentioned a cyclonic circulation over westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off the north Andhra Pradesh coast.

The extended forecast for July 5-11 and July 12-18 suggests the likelihood of two low-pressure systems forming over the Bay of Bengal. There is a moderate probability of a cyclonic circulation/low-pressure area forming over westcentral and northwest Bay of Bengal from July 7-11, and a lower possibility of another low-pressure area forming over westcentral Bay of Bengal after July 13.
