Raipur: Three women Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday.
The exchange of fire occurred at around 8 am in the Abhujmaad forest at the border of Narayanpur and Kanker districts. A joint team of security personnel belonging to the Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Border Security Force (BSF) confronted the armed naxalites. They were on a operation launched on the basis of intelligence reports regarding the presence of Maoists in the area.
Bodies of three women Maoists along with a huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot of encounter. A search operation is still underway in the region.
So far this year, 145 Naxalites have been gunned down by security forces in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh.
