AAP Leader Atishi Takes Oath as Youngest CM of Delhi

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday afternoon. Atishi became the youngest Delhi Chief Minister.

The oath ceremony was a low-key event held at the Delhi Raj Bhavan.

Five other ministers, including Mukesh Ahlawat, a first-time MLA from Sultanpur Majra, Gopal Rai, Imran Hussain, Kailash Gahlot and Saurabh Bharadwaj also took oath of office along with Atishi.

Before she took the oath, Atishi and the five ministers of her cabinet met Kejriwal.

Atishi is an Oxford University alumna and a Rhodes scholar. She will be the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.

Atishi was unanimously chosen as the next CM during the AAP legislature party meeting on Tuesday following the decision of Arvind Kejriwal to step down from the post.

The AAP chief decided to resign as Delhi CM after he was granted bail by the Supreme Court in a corruption case related to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam.

Delhi Assembly polls are to be held in February 2025. Kejriwal said he would return as Chief Minister only if voters give him a “certificate of honesty”.
