CPCB Slaps Rs 11.2 Lakh Fine on VIMSAR For Violating Biomedical Waste Management Norms

Bhubaneswar: The Central Pollution Control Board has imposed a fine of Rs. 11.22 lakh on Veer Surendra Sai Institute Of Medical Science And Research (VIMSAR), Burla for failing to meet waste management standards, particularly in handling biomedical waste.

According to reports, during an inspection at VIMSAR, a team from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) found several discrepancies in its waste management practices.

The CPCB had issued a notice to VIMSAR authorities directing them to alleviate the waste management systems of the institution. As the VIMSAT authorities failed to comply to the instructions, the CPCB slapped the fine with the warning that if  VIMSAR failed to pay the fine within 15 days, then it would invite further action as per the National Green Tribunal guidelines.
