Odisha Min Says No Final Decision Yet on JSW Shifting EV Project from Odisha to Maharashtra

Bhubaneswar: Reacting to the reports that Sajjan Jindal-led JSW Group is planning to shift its proposed Rs 40,000 crore electric vehicle (EV) and battery project from Odisha to Maharashtra, the Odisha government on Tuesday came up with a statement that the company is yet to take a final decision on shifting the project from the state.

The state Industries Minister Sampad Swain told newsmen that talks are still ongoing with JSW Group and the company has not yet finalized to leave Odisha.

“Investors make decisions based on their own considerations, and delays can occur due to various reasons. The JSW Group has also faced delays in starting their electric vehicle (EV) project,” said Swain.

The JSW Group is planning to shift its Rs 40,000 crore mega electric vehicle (EV) and battery project from Odisha to Maharashtra, reported Livemint.com.

Seven months back, in February, the JSW led by Sajjan Jindal, had signed a MoU with the erstwhile BJD government led by Naveen Patnaik to establish this EV project in Odisha.

According to reports, the JSW Group is now eyeing to shift this large-scale EV and battery project to Maharashtra. Aurangabad and Nagpur are being thought up as places for the proposed project.

In February, JSW signed a MoU with the Odisha government to develop advanced EV and battery manufacturing facilities in Cuttack and Paradip.

The project included a 50 GWh EV battery plant, as well as production of commercial and passenger electric vehicles.

The project also included plans for auto component production, such as e-powertrains, a lithium refinery, and a copper smelter.
