Kangana Ranaut Apologizes, Withdraws Remarks on Farm Laws

New Delhi: Bollywood actor-turned-BJP MP, Kangana Ranaut retracted her recent comments advocating for the reinstatement of three farm laws, which were repealed by the Centre following significant protests by the farm unions in 2021.

The BJP distanced itself from Ranaut’s statement as it is preparing for Assembly polls in Haryana slated on October 5. In both states farmers play a major role in state politics.

Ranaut made the controversial statement during the closing ceremony of a fair in Mandi. She urged farmers to ask the Prime Minister to reinstate the three repealed farm laws of 2020. Her statement received backlash both from within the BJP party, opposition and the public.

In a video statement, Ranaut expressed regret for her statement and said, “I withdraw my remarks. I have to remember that I am not just an artist, but a party worker of BJP. My actions must align with the party’s stance.”
