Prayagraj Temples Bar Devotees from Offering Sweets to Deity Following Tirupati Laddu Row

Prayagraj: Amid outrage over ‘adulterated’ laddus offered at the Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh, several temples in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh have barred devotees from bringing sweets and other processed items as offerings. Devotees have been asked to bring coconut, fruits and dry fruits instead.

The temples of Prayagraj that have announced this restriction include Alop Shankari Devi temple, Bade Hanuman temple, and Mankameshwar temple, Lalita Devi temple.

The temple management of Lalita Devi temple of Prayagraj held a meeting on Tuesday, where it was decided that prasad of sweets will not be offered to the goddess in the temple and the devotees were requested to offer coconut, fruits, dry fruits, cardamom etc.

Mankameshwar temple located on the Yamuna bank has banned devotees from bringing prasad from outside to the temple. The temple management has written a letter to the district magistrate to get the ‘laddu-peda’ available in the shops outside the temple tested.
