Board Of Revenue To Probe Chikiti Liquor Tragedy That Claimed 5 Lives

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government ordered the members of Board of Revenue to investigate into the Chikiti liquor tragedy that claimed five lives in August.

The Member of Board of Revenue will probe into the hooch tragedy and file its report within two months, said a notification of the state Excise Department.

This probe will focus on causes of the tragedy i.e identifying the factors that led to the consumption of illicit liquor and the resulting deaths as well as to identify the individuals or groups accountable for the tragedy.

The probe team will also examine failures or negligence by excise and police officials.

The probing team will also recommend actions to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Five persons died and several others were hospitalized after consuming illicit country liquor in the Chikiti Police Station area of Ganjam district between August 19 to 21.
