Wheat-Rice Ration for Distribution To Ration Card Holders Revises by Centre for Odisha, 8 Other States

New Delhi: The Central government has revised the wheat-rice ratio for ration card holders in Odisha and 8 other states. This new ration for food grain distribution will come into effect from October to meet the dietary preferences and demands of people.

As per the revised allocation ration of food grain, 35 lakh metric ton (LMT) wheat will be distributed in Odisha, Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

The Centre has made this adjustment in response to requests made by the concerned state governments including Odisha. Now all ration card holders in the above-mentioned states will receive a combination of wheat and rice. The ratio of provision of rice and wheat will be adjusted as per the regional consumption patterns. However, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, has assured that there will be no changes in cost-sharing, including food subsidy, intra-state transportation, and dealer’s margin.

Citing rising use of wheat among state’s residents, the Odisha Food and Consumer Welfare Ministry had requested the need for this change. The revised combined allocation is expected to improve food security and better balanced nutrition to the beneficiaries.
