Low Pressure Developing Over Bengal; No Cyclone Threat Yet in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic circulation on the Bay of Bengal is likely to develop into a low-pressure area by Friday. This is expected to result in more rains in several parts of Odisha.

According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation formed over south-eastern Bangladesh will gradually move towards west-northwest direction. It will lead to formation of a low-pressure area near West Bengal and Odisha coast by October 4.

The Director-General of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mrutyunjaya Mohapatra has stated that as of now there is no fear of a cyclone in Odisha.

But the IMD has alerted the fishermen and coastal residents as the low-pressure system may bring variable weather conditions.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in 10 Odisha districts on Thursday. As per the IMD, lightning and thundershowers may occur in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul and Dhenkanal districts on Thursday.

Rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may affect several areas of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul and Dhenkanal along with coastal Odisha on Friday.

Overall, the weather will remain mainly dry for the next three days in Odisha. Some places in the state may get light to moderate rain. The rainfall is expected to rise from October 8.
