Man Gets Death Sentence For Raping & Murder of 8-Yr-Old Girl in Sambalpur Dist

Sambalpur: A POCSO court in Sambalpur convicted a man and awarded him death sentence for the ghastly rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in 2022. Apart from the death penalty, the court imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on the convict.

The convict identified as Prasanta Baghar hails from a village under the Jamankira Police Station limits in the Sambalpur district.

As per the chargesheet filed against the convict, he committed the horrific crime on March 25, 2022. He forcefully abducted the minor girl while she had gone to the field to attend to nature’s call. Then Baghar raped her and then beheaded her with an axe. He returned to the village holding the severed head of the girl.

He also had a scuffle with his wife, who confronted her. Later he was arrested by the police.

The POCSO court pronounced the order after analyzing statements 25 witnesses and other evidence.
