21 Cops Injured in Stone Pelting by Mob Seeking FIR Against Hindu Seer for “Objectionable” Remark

Mumbai: Twenty-one policemen were injured when a mob pelted stones at them in Maharashtra’s Amravati city on Friday night. The mob was demanding registration of a case against a Hindu seer’s “objectionable” remarks against Prophet Mohammad.

Later, the police later registered a case against Yati Narsinghanand Maharaj from Ghaziabad for his alleged objectionable remark.

At least 10 police vans were damaged by the stone-pelting mob outside the Nagpuri Gate police station in Amravati city. Police filed a case against 1,200 people for the violence. Around 26 of them have been identified.

The police have issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) barring the assembly of five or more people in Nagpuri Gate area, he said.

Another senior police official said 21 cops were injured and 10 police vans damaged in the stone-pelting incident.
