Odisha Court Sentences 19-Yr-Old to 20 Years for Kidnapping, Raping Minor Girl

Balasore: A Balasore court on Tuesday handed down a 20-year prison sentence to a 19-year-old youth for kidnapping and raping a minor girl.

The accused, identified as Sukuar Singh, a resident of Madhupuria village, was found guilty of the crimes by Special Judge POCSO Ranjan Kumar Sutar.

The incident occurred in April when Singh abducted the 15-year-old girl while she was attending an opera. He held her captive in various locations in Mayurbhanj district, including Udala and Kaptipada, where the rape took place.

The victim’s parents filed a complaint with the police, leading to Singh’s arrest. After a thorough investigation, the prosecution presented evidence against him in court. The judge, who examined 15 witnesses and 22 exhibits, found Singh guilty of the charges.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on Singh. If he fails to pay the fine, his imprisonment will be extended by two years.
