Congress Delegation Approaches Election Commission Post Haryana Poll Setback

New Delhi: A day after the Congress party suffered a significant defeat in the Haryana Assembly elections, senior leaders including KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera and Ajay Maken met with officials at the Election Commission of India (ECI) in Delhi. The delegation raised concerns regarding the vote counting process in several constituencies.

The meeting follows statements made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, who described the election results as “unexpected.” In a letter to Kharge, the ECI acknowledged the party’s concerns and confirmed their willingness to discuss the electoral outcome with the delegation at 6 PM.

Rahul Gandhi also hinted at the possibility of lodging a formal complaint regarding issues with electronic voting machines (EVMs) on his social media account. “We are assessing the unexpected results in Haryana and will relay the complaints from various Assembly constituencies to the Election Commission. A heartfelt thank you to the people of Haryana for their support and to our party workers for their dedicated efforts. Our fight for rights, social and economic justice, and truth continues,” he stated.

The BJP claimed a decisive victory, winning 48 out of 90 seats, while Congress managed to secure only 37 seats, failing to leverage the decade-long anti-incumbency sentiment against the ruling party.
