Labourer Critical, Multiple Feared Trapped as Under-Construction Roof Collapses in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: A labourer sustained serious injuries and multiple others were feared trapped when the roof of an under-construction building collapsed in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at a five-story building site in Mahisapat. Around 10 labourers were working on the roof of a high portico, a structure approximately 40 feet tall. While laying the concrete and stone mixture for the roof, the supporting pillars gave way, causing the structure to collapse.

While some managed to escape with minor injuries, others quickly worked to rescue a colleague who was trapped under the debris, suffering critical injuries to both hands.

Local police and fire services responded promptly, rushing the injured labourer to a nearby hospital and initiating a rescue operation for the 4-5 workers believed to be trapped beneath the collapsed roof.
