After 52 years SCB’s Forensic Department to have Histopathology Lab

Cuttack: SCB Medical College and Hospital’s Forensic Department will soon get a histopathology laboratory.

At present, the department depends on the pathology department of the hospital for its histopathology-related tests. So, most of the time histopathology tests were getting delayed.

Looking into the problem, the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology department put forward the demand of setting up its own histopathology laboratory. The hospital authorities have initiated measures for setting up the laboratory after 52 years of functioning the forensic department.

The Forensic Medicine and Toxicology department was started in the SCB Medical College in the year 1970. According to the department reports, it conducts around 13-15 autopsies every day.

Conducting many histopathological tests in the pathology department is quite a hard task for the Forensic Department. Hence, the department demanded a histopathology laboratory of its own.

“We are dependent on the Pathology department for histopathology tests for decades. This lab is very essential for us. The state government has initiated steps for setting up the lab under the FMT department with high-end equipment. Concerned doctors will be given special training for this”, said Professor and HOD of the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Department, Dr. Geeta Sahu.
