Kolkata: Two persons died and four others were injured in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district when a mortar shell swept by the floodwaters of the Teesta River, exploded on Thursday evening.
This sudden explosion occurred in the Chatra Para area of Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal.
It is suspected that this mortal shell belonged to the Indian Army and was swept away by the flash flood in the Teesta river because of a cloudburst in Sikkim on Wednesday.
According to locals, the blast occurred while some persons were inspecting the mortar shells.
The deceased have not been identified.
Meanwhile, the toll in the flash floods in Sikkim mounted to 21 on Friday as the Army and teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) worked for the third day in search of those who were swept away and are still missing.
The death toll in the flash flood in Sikkim reached 21 on Friday and 103 persons are still missing including 15 personnel of the Indian Army.
