20 Killed, 21 Others Injured as Bus Plunges Into Ravine in Pakistan

At least 20 people died and 21 others were seriously injured when a passenger bus skidded off a mountain road and fell into a ravine in northwest Pakistan’s Gilgit Baltistan region on Friday.

The accident occurred at around 5:30 am on the Karakoram Highway in Diamer district. The ill-fated bus was travelling from Rawalpindi to Hunza.

The driver lost control of the vehicle which overturned and fell near the banks of the Indus River.

There were 43 passengers in the bus when the accident took place. The death toll was expected to rise further as many of the injured were in critical condition.

Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan directed the administration to provide immediate medical aid to the injured.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief on the loss of lives and conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families.
