3 From Odisha Arrested for Attempting to Derail Train in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Three persons from Odisha, were arrested for allegedly attempting to derail a train near Nanjangud in Mysuru district of Karnataka.

The arrested persons allegedly placed a wooden log and steel sleeper on the railway track between Nanjangudu and Kadakola railway stations.

A major accident was averted as the loco pilot of Chamarajanagar- Mysuru Express noticed the log put over the track and put the brakes in time.

Personnel of the RPF and the Government Railway Police (GRP) rushed to the spot and at first nabbed Somay Marandi (22) in relation to the incident. Marandi’s interrogation led to the arrest of his aides Bhajanu Murmu (28) and Dasamat Marandi (32). All three are residents of Odisha, who work in paper mills in Nanjanagudu.

According to police sources, the accused were in an inebriated state when they deliberately placed iron sleepers and wooden log on the railway track. They wanted to make a video clip of train wheels passing over the log.

The arrested men were booked under Section 150(1)(A) (maliciously attempting to wreak havoc on a train) of the Railway Act-1989, said police.
