3 of A Family Trampled to Death by Wild Elephants in Bargarh Dist

Bargarh: Three members of a family were trampled to death by three wild elephants at the Saldiha village under the Paikamal forest range in Bargarh district.

The ill-fated family of one Bipin Bariha was sleeping in the backyard of their house because of the hot and humid weather when they faced the wild elephant attack. Three elephants that had strayed out of their herd had entered the village.

These elephants are said to have migrated from the Nuapada district.

The deceased included Bipin’s wife, 3-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter. Bipin, his mother and his 7-year-old son had a narrow escape. They were injured in the elephant attack and are being treated at a hospital.

A team of forest officials visited the village to investigate and also held discussions with the villagers. The villagers alleged that the forest department had not informed about the movement of wild elephants in their area.
