32 Killed, 16 Injured in Massive Fire at Drug Rehab Centre in Iran

At least 32 persons were charred to death and 16 others were seriously injured in a major fire accident at a drug rehabilitation centre in northern Iran on Thursday night.

The judiciary of Iran has started investigation to find out the cause of the fire in an opium rehab camp in Langarud in the Caspian Sea province of Gilan, reported Iran’s Mehr news. The managers and officials of the rehab centre were under investigation.

According to the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, Iran has one of the severest drug addiction problems in the world. Iran is the main drug traffic transit zone for poppy, the source of opium and heroin, from Afghanistan to Western Europe.
