36 Flamingos Die After Hit by Emirates Flight in Mumbai, Plane Damaged

Mumbai: Carcasses of at least 36 flamingos were found in Mumbai’s suburbs of Ghatkopar on Monday. They were hit by an Emirates aircraft on its way to Mumbai airport.

The aircraft collided with the flamingo flock moments before its landing at the Mumbai airport. The plane was severely damaged by this bird hit. Yet it managed to land safely at the airport.

Because of the damaged plane, Emirates cancelled the return flight to Dubai late last evening.

The Forest Department officials recovered the mutilated remains of the flamingos from different parts of Ghatkopar area. The area was littered with bird carcass, pieces of wings, claws and beaks.

The flamingo carcasses were sent for an autopsy to find the exact cause of their death.
