AAP to Contest Delhi Assembly Elections Solo, Shuns Congress Alliance

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday announced that it will contest the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections independently, without forming an alliance.

Delhi Minister Gopal Rai clarified that the previous alliance with Congress was specific to the Lok Sabha elections and won’t extend to the assembly polls in 2025.

During the meeting, the AAP legislators were instructed to focus on development work in their constituencies during weekends, which had been paused due to the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha polls.

The party will hold a meeting with Delhi Councillors on Saturday and another gathering with party workers on June 13.

The AAP contested 22 seats across five states in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections – Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat and Assam. However, it could secure victory in only three seats in Punjab.

This poor showing in the Lok Sabha elections comes just two years after the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP swept the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, winning 92 out of 117 seats.
