Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of Congress Suspended from Lok Sabha

New Delhi: Congress’s leader, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, was suspended from the House on Thursday for his alleged attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and disturbing the ministers. He is the first Congress leader in Lok Sabha to get a suspension order.

According to sources, the matter will be referred to a Privileges Committee.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved the motion for Chowdhury’s suspension. The resolution was adopted by voice vote.

Chowdhury later claimed before the media that he had not meant to insult PM Modi. “Modi ji is sitting ‘nirav’ on Manipur issue, which means sitting silent. ‘Nirav’ means to be silent. My intention was not to insult PM Modi,” he said.
