Air Hostess From Kolkata Arrested for Smuggling 1 Kg Gold In Rectum

Thiruvananthapuram: An air hostess named Surabhi Khatun, hailing from Kolkata was arrested by the officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for allegedly smuggling nearly one kilogram of gold from Muscat to Kannur by concealing it in her rectum.

Khatun arrived from Muscat at Kannur International Airport on May 28. During search, it was found that she had hidden

960 grams of smuggled gold in compound form in her rectum. After arrest, she has been remanded to 14 days to women’s prison in Kannur.

As per reports, this is the first case in India where an airline crew member has been arrested for smuggling gold by concealing it in the rectum.

Initial investigation hints that she had previously smuggled gold several times. Kerala-based individuals are suspected to be involved in this smuggling racket.
