India’s Hockey Squad for Paris Olympics Announced; Odisha’s Amit Rohidas Set for 2nd Appearance

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s hockey star Amit Rohidas is set to become a two-time Olympian, having been named in the Indian squad for the upcoming Paris Olympics. The 31-year-old defender, who contributed to India’s bronze medal victory at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, is the sole player from Odisha in the current squad.

Rohidas, a gold medalist at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, the 2023 Asian Champions Trophy in Chennai, and the 2017 Asia Cup in Dhaka, continues to be a pivotal player for India. During the Tokyo Olympics, Odisha was represented by Rohidas and Birendra Lakra.

Veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh and midfielder Manpreet Singh are set to make their fourth Olympic appearances, highlighting their enduring excellence. The 16-member squad, announced by Hockey India on Wednesday, also includes five debutants: Jarmanpreet Singh, Sanjay, Raj Kumar Pal, Abhishek, and Sukhjeet Singh.

India is placed in Pool B alongside defending champions Belgium, Australia, Argentina, New Zealand, and Ireland.
