Andhra Govt Forms SIT to Probe Tirupati Laddu Adulteration Row

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the use of adulterated ghee for making Tirupati laddu.

This SIT will be headed by Sarvashrestha Tripathi, Inspector General of Police (IG), Guntur range. Gopinath Jetty, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Visakhapatnam range, and Harshavardhana Raju, Superintendent of Police, Kadapa, are the members of this SIT.

On Sunday, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that a SIT probe will be initiated into irregularities at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which manages the Sri Venkateswara temple at Tirumala.

Naidu said after the receipt of the report of SIT, the government would take action against those involved in using adulterated ghee for making Tirupati laddoos.

Citing lab reports, Naidu alleged presence of beef tallow, lard and fish oil in ghee used for the preparation of laddu.
