Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Surrenders at Tihar Jail as Interim Bail Ends

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surrendered at Tihar jail on Sunday evening, following the expiration of his 21-day interim bail granted by the Supreme Court.

Before his return, Kejriwal made symbolic stops at Rajghat, Hanuman Mandir, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headquarters.

At the AAP office, Kejriwal expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court for his temporary release, which he used to campaign extensively. He emphasized that the country’s welfare supersedes his party’s interests. Most notably, he claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi admitted to lacking evidence against him in the Delhi liquor policy case.

Kejriwal accused the Central government of authoritarianism, questioning how a Chief Minister with a significant mandate could be jailed without proof. He stated, “This is dictatorship. I can imprison anyone, signalling that if I can jail Kejriwal, no one is safe.”

His previous jail stint sparked controversy over his diabetes treatment, with AAP alleging medication denial. As he re-enters Tihar, Kejriwal, uncertain about his treatment, invoked Bhagat Singh’s legacy, stating, “When power becomes dictatorial, jail becomes a duty.”
