Babar Azam, Azhar Mahmood Consider Legal Action Against Match-Fixing Allegations

Pakistan men’s cricket team assistant coach Azhar Mahmood is set to initiate legal action against individuals spreading false allegations about him and his family. Mahmood’s response comes after Pakistan’s disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup group stage under Babar Azam’s captaincy.

Expressing his frustration, Mahmood stated on social media platform X, “I categorically state that these allegations are entirely baseless and false. It is extremely upsetting to hear them.” He urged the public to refrain from engaging with such false narratives, labelling them as “ridiculous and dangerous.”

Mahmood stressed that spreading falsehoods without evidence is a criminal offence and warned that those responsible would face legal consequences. “Pursuing an increase in followers and media attention by spreading falsehoods is downright unacceptable. I will be pursuing legal advice against those responsible for making these false allegations towards me and my family, and strict action will be taken accordingly. We will not be discussing this matter further on social media. I urge everyone to avoid engaging with or entertaining these harmful narratives as it is essential to put an end to such behaviour in our media culture,” he added.

In related developments, Geo News reported that Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is also considering legal action against YouTubers and former cricketers who accused him of misconduct during the T20 World Cup 2024. The Pakistan Cricket Board’s legal department is reportedly collecting evidence against those involved in the social media campaign targeting Babar.
