West Bengal Panchayat Polls to Take Place on July 8, Results on July 11

Kolkata: The State Election Commissioner, Rajiva Sinha, announced that the three-tier panchayat polls in West Bengal are scheduled to take place on July 8. This significant event, comprising the village council elections, will occur on a single day, with the deadline for nominations set for June 15.

During a press conference, Sinha stated that the nominations can be withdrawn until June 20, and the votes will be counted on July 11.

The three-tier Panchayati Raj system encompasses the Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti, and Zila Parishad. Notably, when asked about the opposition parties’ demand for central forces’ supervision during the elections, Sinha chose not to provide a direct response.

The panchayat election holds great significance as it often serves as an indicator of the state’s voting preferences in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
