Bengaluru Court Denies Bail to Prajwal Revanna in Sex Crimes Case

Bengaluru: Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna’s bail plea was rejected by a Bengaluru court on Wednesday, amidst charges of rape and sexual harassment across multiple cases. The Additional City Civil and Sessions Court Judge delivered the ruling today, following a plea reservation on Monday.

Currently in custody under the Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed specifically to investigate the allegations, the 33-year-old politician had earlier been remanded to judicial custody till July 8. However, subsequent to a body warrant sought by the SIT through the Special Public Prosecutor, he was placed in SIT custody till June 29.

The cases against Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, include allegations from various complainants. One case, filed at Holenarasipura town police station, accuses him of sexually harassing a former maid, where he is listed as the second accused alongside his father and local MLA, HD Revanna.

Allegations surfaced after explicit videos purportedly involving Prajwal Revanna circulated in Hassan before the recent Lok Sabha polls, where he failed to retain the Hassan parliamentary constituency.

The charges against him extend to three additional cases, including one filed by the CID for alleged repeated rape of a former member of the Hassan Zilla Panchayat. Another involves the alleged rape of a woman in her 60s from Mysuru’s K R Nagara, initially reported as a kidnapping case. A fourth case, registered by the CID’s cybercrime police station in Bengaluru, accuses him of sexual harassment, stalking, criminal intimidation, and violation of privacy under the IT Act.

Prajwal Revanna recently underwent an inquest at his residence in Holenarasipura related to the most recent case against him.
