Bihar Man Shocked to Get Rs 52 Lakh Monthly Electricity Bill, Power Supply Disconnected for Non-Payment

Patna: Harishankar Maniyari, a medical representative by profession from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur was shocked when he received a monthly electricity bill of Rs 52,43,327 for his home on June 27.

When Maniyari’s home’s power was disconnected, he recharged his electricity connection for Rs 500. But the power was not restored.

To check up, Maniyari downloaded his electricity bill and was shocked by seeing the over Rs 52 lakh outstanding amount. Then he complained at the local electricity office about the electricity bill.

Despite his complaint, his electricity connection has not been restored.

The power department officials said the discrepancy might have occurred during the transfer of the readings of the old meter to the new smart meter.
