Patna/Jamshedpur: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday made significant strides in the ongoing NEET-UG paper leak investigation with the arrest of two individuals linked to the crime.
Pankaj Kumar, who allegedly stole the exam papers from the National Testing Agency’s trunk in Hazaribagh, was apprehended in Patna. His associate, Raju Singh, accused of distributing the leaked papers, was detained in Jamshedpur.
Kumar, also known as Aditya, is a 2017 civil engineering graduate from NIT Jamshedpur. Sources reveal that he stole the NEET-UG paper from a National Testing Agency trunk in Bihar’s Hazaribagh before it was leaked.
The CBI has registered multiple FIRs across the country related to irregularities in the medical entrance exam and has now made nearly 60 arrests. While the Bihar case focuses on paper leaks, investigations in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra pertain to impersonation and cheating.
The NEET-UG exam, conducted by the NTA for medical and allied courses, witnessed a participation of over 23 lakh candidates across 4,750 centres on May 5.
The exam has been embroiled in controversies since its inception, with allegations of malpractice plaguing the examination process.
