Centre Convenes All-Party Meet On Bangladesh Situation, EAM Jaishankar Briefs

New Delhi: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar today chaired an all-party meeting to discuss the situation after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh and Army’s takeover amid violent protests.

Jaishankar briefed the leaders of all political parties about the present situation in the violence-hit Bangladesh and the steps being taken by the Indian government.

Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also attended the meeting.

Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday and escaped out of Bangladesh on Monday. After her resignation, Bangladesh Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman said the military will form an “interim government”.

Hasina landed at the Hindon Air Force base in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, where she was met by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

The violence in Bangladesh has already claimed 300 lives. Hasina fled from Bangladesh after fresh clashes on Sunday claimed lives of 100 people.
