Chariots Start Rolling in Puri on Second Day of Rath Yatra

Puri: The pulling of chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra resumed on the second day in Puri on Monday. Lakhs of devotees have gathered to drag the three massive chariots to Sri Gundicha temple.

On Sunday, the pulling of chariots began at 5 pm after the ritualistic ‘Pahandi Bije’ and other traditional rituals of the deities. These rituals included the ‘Chhera Pahanra niti’ performed by Puri Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb, as well as the Charamala Phita, Ghoda Lagi, and Sarathi Lagi rituals of the holy trinity.

As per the traditional norms the pulling of the chariots was stopped after sunset and the chariots of the three deities were halted at different locations.

While the ‘Taladhwaja’ chariot of Lord Balabhadra stopped at Marichikote Chhak, Devi Subhadra’s Darpadalana chariot halted near Srikrishna Cinema Hall. On the other hand, Lord Jagannath’s ‘Nandighosha’ chariot came to a stop after being pulled a few meters from the Singhadwara, the main entrance of the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri.
