Congress Releases 1st List Of 39 Candidates For Lok Sabha Polls; Rahul Gandhi to Contest from Wayanad

New Delhi: The Congress party on Friday released its first list of 39 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Notable figures like Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, and Bhupesh Baghel feature prominently in this list.

Notably, Rahul Gandhi has been nominated to contest from the Wayanad constituency in Kerala.

However, it remains uncertain whether Rahul Gandhi will also vie from Amethi, his former bastion, as the initial list did not encompass candidates from Uttar Pradesh.

Having commenced his political journey from Amethi in 2004, Rahul Gandhi clinched victory thrice before succumbing to a defeat by the BJP’s Smriti Irani in 2019. Nevertheless, he secured a Lok Sabha seat from Wayanad.

Prominent leaders featured in the first list include former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, MP K Muraleedharan, KC Venugopal, and Shashi Tharoor.

Shashi Tharoor, a three-term incumbent, is set to vie for the Thiruvananthapuram seat once again, while Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal will be contesting from Alappuzha in Kerala.

In Chhattisgarh, the Congress has nominated former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel to contest from Rajnandgaon, marking his Lok Sabha electoral debut.
