Amethi: In a stunning upset, Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma has dethroned Union Minister Smriti Irani in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, recapturing the Amethi constituency, long considered a stronghold of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Sharma defeated Irani by a massive margin of over 1.67 lakh votes.

According to official data from the Election Commission, Sharma secured a commanding lead with 5,39,228 votes, while incumbent BJP candidate Irani trailed with 3,72,032 votes. The BSP candidate lagged far behind, garnering only 34,534 votes.

Despite her loss, Irani graciously acknowledged her supporters and BJP workers for their relentless efforts. She highlighted her achievements during her tenure, including fulfilling long-pending demands such as village drainage systems, bypass roads, and a medical college. “I had the privilege of accomplishing 30-year-old demands in just five years,” she noted.

She reflected on her campaign experiences, stating, “As a political worker, it has been my great fortune to visit and work in every village of the area.”
